Holiday Planning

Yep, that’s right, it’s that time of the year, Holiday Planning!!!! Woooohoooooo! Yes, I’m excited. I absolutely love this time of the year and I get extra excited. Even though this really is the best time of the year, you can easily get overwhelmed with it. Hosting holiday parties/gatherings, gift buying, decoration, office parties, etc. can make you feel like everything is coming to you all at once and hitting your pockets at the same time. So, you fall into that feeling of I wish this would hurry up and be over with and you find yourself not being festival anymore.

But, it doesn’t have to be like that. All it takes is a little planning and sticking with your plan can make it easy and great.

1) Sit down and make a list of things you want to do for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you find your list being more than 15 things, for each holiday, you are going overboard. Remember, you don’t have to go all out to please anyone. Less is more!

2) Gift buying. I’m sorry but there is no rule to say that you have to buy EVERYBODY you know a gift. No! Because I’m sure you’re not receiving a gift from everybody that you know. Buy for your household and add a few more people on the list. That’s it! Now if you are participating in a few Dirty Santa parties with friends and co-workers, limit yourself to just buying the gift and a small item to chip in on for the refreshments.

3) Decoration. Okay, let’s face it. You don’t have to decorate your house for the entire street/community you live in. Make it simple. Make it neat. Make it easy for you to put up and take down. Unless you are participating in a contest with best décor for your community, it will be okay to make it simple.

4) Dinner. Now, if it’s just you and your immediate family for the holidays eating, you don’t have to the full feast. And who said that you had to do the traditional meals? Do something different. Do something for you and your family that you will like. Make a grocery list of the items that you will need. Check out your local grocery stores for sale items that might be on your list.

5) Movies. Many families like to go to the movies during the holidays as spending time with the family. Let’s think about the budget here. Family of 4 going to the movies. Each ticket is $11.75 (total $47.00). Of course, you’re going to want snacks (let’s just do $8 each which total $32.00). That’s a total of $79.00 that you are spending at the movie theatre. Now that amount is very high. But if you have a smart TV or a game console or a local RedBox near you, you can rent a movie/watch on HULU or Netflix, pop your popcorn, eat your own snacks, and just get really comfortable in your own home and enjoy family movie night

You don’t have to stress yourself out this upcoming holiday season. Make it fun. Make it enjoyable. Make memories. Make it count. Planning is fun and this is the perfect time to start doing it before the holidays sneak up on you.
