As the journey in life continues, desires change and you sometimes wonder if that person is really the right one to be around. It's not a bad thing; it's a mature thing.
As I get older, I start to evaluate the people I associate myself with. They are the good ones, then the bad one. The positive ones, and the negative ones. The ones that motivate you, and the ones that just want you to be around them to better them and not you. It's nothing wrong with making a list of people that you associate with and putting them in a specific category. Now, don't get me wrong. It's not that you are better than them, it's just that you are getting to a level in life that may or may not require them.
Sometimes, creating the right tribe can be difficult but it is also beneficial. It is nothing that you nor I should feel bad about. "But what if it hurts their feelings?" Separating yourself from people that is not right for you is just you protecting yourself from your feelings getting hurt. Let's face it, we are all adults and there are just some things in life that we shouldn't do and people that we just don't want to be around. If you have a goal of moving forward and being positive, then that's your opportunity to start creating your tribe.
1) Having a Prayer Partner.
We all pray, right? Well at least we should. But what about having that prayer partner that even if you don't tell them to pray for you but they do anyway and you feel it? Yeah, I want that type of prayer partner. Also, that one that will go into prayer when you let them know that things are not going right and you just don't know what to do.
2) An Accountability Partner.
Everyone needs that accountability partner. This person is the one that will tell you when you are right and wrong and never change. You tell her a goal. She will go out her way to help you achieve that goal. When they see your bad days but still push you to be greater, yep, that's the right accountability partner.
3) Developing Value within your Tribe.
What do I mean by saying developing value within your tribe. Well, it's like creating a board of directors for a company that have different backgrounds. One specializes in this. One specializes in that. You specialize in this. That is how your tribe should be. Your tribe should be able to build around you and you build around them. You both will value from experience, expertise, and warmth you all bring.
4) Consistency is Important.
Now we all know about the "fair weather friends". But you don't need those type in your tribe. With you being the leader of your own tribe, show them consistency with your actions, goals, and presence. You're the one building the tribe right? Having great followers means that you are a great leader. Be consistent with them and they will be consistent with you.
5) Don't change your vision to better them.
Your tribe should be there to help you and your vision go forward in the right direction. Not take it and make it their own. It's yours. God gave it to you. The right tribe won't steal it; they will embrace it.
One key thing is creating your tribe is really finding out who you are and what you want. Don't be scared or ashamed by only being with a certain type of crowd. The ones that should be scared are the ones that are looking at your growth that comes from your tribe in a positive way!
