On, June 29, 1981, a great person was born and that great person was ME! Yep, you read it right. Each year has brought it's on learning experiences that is listed in my life story. But this year I did something different. Normally on my birthday I will just sit at home and do nothing or maybe a small dinner with a few friends but that's about it. This birthday, I said I wanted to go somewhere that I have never been before. Knowing that I had to go back to work after my birthday, it wasn't going to be a lavish trip. He then called out a couple of places and the winner was MEMPHIS, TN!!!
So I started programming my mind to not worry about anything while I'm on vacation and I didn't want a time schedule to control my vacation. The closer I got to leaving on 06.29.18 (the day of my birthday), the more happier I became. Son was taking care of. No, we didn't leave him at home alone. He was with his God-mother. They have a bond that we don't even come between, so we knew he was in good hands.
Friday morning.
Wake up. Morning meditation. I showered. I got dressed. Hubby came in from work. He showered. He got dressed. He loaded the car. And, off we went. I wore a shirt that my T-shirt plug company, Trendy and Amazing Design Essentials, LLC. , co-owned by my classmate/friend, Tamika Whitt-Wright, that described me. It spoke very highly of me. I didn't want the normal "birthday" shirt that everyone else has had. I mean, it is my day and I can wear and get what I want right? Right!!!
Friday afternoon/evening.
Oh yeah, before I forget to tell you all. I drove all the way to Memphis. I wouldn't dare have my husband to do all that driving and he had just gotten home from work, after working all night long. Now after we had gotten in Memphis good, he took over in the driving. :-)
We met my favorite aunt and uncle in Memphis for a birthday lunch. We ate at One and Only BBQ in Memphis and OMG...it was DELICIOUS! We had Michael as our waiter and he was great. I got a slice of the triple chocolate cake and for me to eat an entire slice of chocolate cake, it had to be good. IT WAS GOOD!! Then we left and went site seeing. Our hotel was the Hampton Inn by Hilton at Wolfchase-Galleria and this was a pleasant stay. Very clean, classy, and polite location. We were in the middle of eateries and shopping centers, which made it event the more better. :-)
Now there was one place that I saw when I got off the interstate to go to the hotel and that place was a homeowner's heaven. What's the name? IKEA!!! I had to go in there and what else was there to do but SHOP!!! Lovely place and yes I home shopped on my birthday. It made me happy so that's all that matter.
Then back to the hotel we go and that was pretty much it. I was beat up. He was beat up. That bed felt so good and soft and yeah, that was it. I mean who said that we had to do everything the first night anyway.
Saturday morning/afternoon.
We had breakfast at the hotel and it was delicious. Met some other couples and starting talking about football (the guy was a Tennessee fan but lived in Pittsburgh). It was kind of a late start to the morning because being able to sleep in and relax was so REFRESHING!
We went to Bass Pro Shop with the Pyramid and it was so much fun. Strangely, I suggested going in there because I was thinking it was something up with that big ole' pyramid. We went in and WOW! So much to see. There was an elevator to take you to the point of the pyramid to see out on the city and the view was amazing. We shopped and set goals to make some big purchases that we both wanted and I'm looking forward to it. We also had lunch at the cafe they had in there at the top of the pyramid. Now after that we went to catch the Memphis Trolley . That was fun! We were on there with other tourists and yep...that was fun.
Now we went to the National Civil Rights Museum and it was something special to see. It was quite hot out there to take pictures at the hotel and see the cars, etc. It was a lot but also beneficial. I can now check off my list that I have been there to a very historical place. After leaving there, we explored the city a little more and had dinner at Gus Fried Chicken. The chicken was spicy but it wasn't that spicy. If I could eat it, then it was edible. We didn't have far to go to the hotel because it was right in the next parking lot. http://www.bluescitycafe.com/
So, we got back to the hotel and it was REST time! We knew that we wanted to go to Beale Street but that was later on. We left out about 10 pm and went down there. Honestly, I didn't enjoy it. It was hot, too many people bumping up to you, long lines to get in the clubs and restaurants. So we just walked it and I wasn't to hyped about it. We ate at Blues City Cafe and it wasn't the best. Let's just say that I was ready to go back to the hotel.
Sunday.
Now, I'm not going no where and not close out my weekend at a church service. We attended the New Salem Baptist Church, Dr. Frank Ray is the Pastor. We so enjoyed ourselves. He is one of Jerry's favorite preachers. I got a chance to hear him when he came to Birmingham for revival at Jerry's church. AWESOME!! He didn't preach but one of his associates did and it was great! Choir was good. Music was good. Preaching was good. That's the way I like it. We met back up with our aunt and uncle for lunch after service and then we got on the road to head back home.
This was truly a celebration I enjoyed and to say the least #Ch37 started off with a bang. I'm trying to keep it that way! So that's why I say my birthday was AWESOME!!!
Here are a couple of collages from the pics I took! Enjoy!
